So that the children know what to expect, this resource highlights features inside and outside a church. UPDATED on 13th May 2019 with 3 new additional activities for early finishers. Worksheets now have answer keys. Pictures are also in black and white for the children to colour in. Complete resource with presentations and flexible detailed lesson plans. The lesson starts off with getting children to discuss where their special place is - a gentle starter to lead into a special place for some Christians. Lesson 1: My Special Place Lesson 2: Places of Worship and Special Symbols Lesson 3: Mains features inside/outside a church Lesson 4: My Church Visit and activity sheets - ready-made list for children to tick off what they see and draw other features of the church Lesson 5: Follow- up to Visit - Shared writing and individual writing Worksheets/Activities for each lesson Word Search with Solution List of words relating to the church - select some of the words and ask children if they know the meaning of the word(s). Ask children about some of the tricky words to spell, e.g. aisle. Some words start with 'c' as in cat but has an 's' sound, e.g. candle and ciborium. Additional worksheets - Word Church Mat - Children unscramble the 8 words below the pictures and write it out correctly. - Read and match pictures to sentences worksheet - Children read the six sentences which describe church objects and then trace over the words for each picture, cut out and glue the pictures opposite the sentences. - Differentiated Alphabetical order worksheets - children write the 10 words in ABC order and then sort out the two jumbled sentences. This resource material is for countries using the euro currency: euros and euro cents. Aimed at KS1/Kindergarten/Grade 1 and ESL/EFL students. Updated on 17 May, 2022 to include different ways the euros/cents are written. There are now three versions which you can choose to download. The presentation is a step-by-step approach to teaching euros/cents. <strong>This pack contains:</strong> A comprehensive PowerPoint Presentation (46 Slides) - divided into convenient sections. Identifying and describing coins and their value Adding up cents and adding prices of items Looking at combination of coins and comparing/matching coins of equivalent value, e.g. five 1 cents is worth the same as a 5 cent coin. Giving change - working out how much change you would get from 5c, 10c, and 20c. The Presentation also includes whole class activities and different strategies students can use to work out money problems. There is a separate Presentation on general introduction and a list of countries that use euros as their currency. 4 Flexible Lesson Plans - contains objectives, plenaries and main lesson. PowerPoint slides are referred to in the lesson plans. ** Worksheets ** <strong>Lesson 1</strong> - Matching each coin to its value - There are two sets of activities. (1) Write the value opposite the coin and practise writing the euro signs. (2) Cut and paste each coin to the correct value shown. <strong>Lesson 2</strong> - Let’s Go Shopping (1) - adding two items together Let’s Go Shopping (2) - adding three items together Optional cut and paste Match up Money Bags activity - Students add the prices of the pictures together to get the total and then match the bag of 1 cent coins to the correct sum. <strong>Lesson 3</strong> - 4 Worksheets called Euro Money Bags 1, 2, 3, and 4. Students draw combination of coins to match the price tag. <strong>Lesson 4</strong> - 2 Giving change worksheets - Price tag is shown and then the coin. Students work out what change they would receive if they spent the money shown on the price tag and paid with, e.g. a 10 cent coin. Sample worksheets and Slides are shown in preview pane. This pack relates to euros and euro cents currency. Updated 17 May 2022 to include two versions of the original Presentation and worksheets showing the different ways euros/cents are written. Aimed at KS1/Kindergarten/Grade 1 and ESL/EFL students. The presentation can be used as follow-up to the first pack and builds upon the skills students have learnt previously. It still uses a step-by-step approach to teaching money but using higher value coins. This pack contains: <strong>A comprehensive PowerPoint Presentation (53 Slides) - divided into convenient sections. </strong> 1.Reviewing coins and their values, money exchange and using the 50c, €1 and €2 coins. 2. Using €1 and €2 euro coins. Using combination of coins to equal the value of the one euro and two euro coins. 3. Using euros and cents together - this is explained in the presentation with various whole class activities 4. Giving change from €1 and € 2 euro coins. The Presentation also includes whole class activities and different strategies students can use to work out money problems. Students also learn to change, e.g. 125 cents to €1.25/1,25€. **4 Flexible Lesson Plans - contains objectives, plenaries and main lesson. PowerPoint Slides are referred to in the lesson plans. ** Some preparation is required: Laminate the coin sheets, coin cards and price tags for practical tasks at tables. <strong>Worksheets</strong> <strong>Lesson 1</strong> - Adding up combinations of euro coins (2 worksheets). At the Mall (2 worksheets) - adding two items. Extension adding three items. <strong>Lesson 2</strong> - You will need the coin sheets or you can use plastic euro money. Students draw or use the laminated coins to work out different combination of coins that equal €1. Challenge: Different combination of coins that equal two euros. E.g. 50c + 20c + 20c + 10c = €1 <strong>Lesson 3</strong> - Two-part money activity Worksheets (x2). Section A - students complete the table; Section B - students complete the addition sums. <strong>Lesson 4</strong> - 2 Giving change activity. Students in groups at their table. Students take turns to pick a €1 coin card and a price label. The rest of the students in the group work out the change. Challenge: Working out change from €2. 39 Slide PowerPoint Presentation on sound and the practical tasks children can undertake. The Teacher’s Note sets out how you can introduce the topic and suggestions on how to organize the activities and list resources needed. You can organize a carousel system (different workstations) - so each table deals with a different aspect on sound or you can do a whole class lesson on one aspect of sound week by week, ending the term on a sound carousel for assessment. The resource comprises: PowerPoint Presentation – Review Work on sounds and contains background information on how the piano, guitar and wind instruments work and how we hear. Teacher’s Notes (3 pages, excluding credit page) 14 Activity Cards (You can laminate for durability), cut out for each table. The cards contain questions to prompt the children to carry out their tasks. There are ready-made investigations sheets and sample investigations sheets. Numbered Table cards Vocabulary cards (See preview pane) Worksheet on How We Hear Worksheet on Volume and Pitch Experiments: Vibration involving moving objects- e.g. children can experiment with a tuning forks and water and ping-pong balls, rice on drums. Sound and Pitch - e.g. use empty bottles filled with different levels of liquid to produce different pitches and also blow horizontally along the edge to produce sounds similar to wind instruments; and/or experiment with guitar strings –shortening and lengthening the string to produce different sounds; Listening devices - experiment with different string telephones by changing variables such as type of string and material of cups; Blocking Out Sound activities- Children can make ear defenders out of margarine tubs packed with different materials or they can wrap the sound source like a buzzer or alarm clock with different materials to see which is best at muffling the sound. Optional - Musical Instruments - Children can make musical instruments or use the ones they may have made in previous lessons - to adjust how they use it or even make it better - can experiment with various aspects of sound. Outside activity - How sound gets fainter as you travel further away - Use a sound source like a buzzer. This Presentation relates to mixed CVC short medial vowels a, e, i, o, u. A lovely time-saving presentation to introduce into your phonic sessions. <strong>Play in Slide Show.</strong> Students are asked to think, pair and share. <strong>Presentation 1 – (6 Slides) (Suitable to assess students’ knowledge of CVC words).</strong> You can use this presentation to see how many words your children can make with each of the five medial vowels in CVC words. To make it more exciting, I have uploaded a timer set for 2 mins and 5 mins. Children write as many CVC words as they can with: • Medial vowel ‘a’ • Medial vowel ‘e’ • Medial vowel ‘i’ • Medial vowel ‘o’ • Medial vowel ‘u’ You can do a vowel a day. <strong>Presentation 2 – (16 Slides) (Suitable for Middle Ability students)</strong> In this presentation, students are asked to write CVC words, but they are given clues in sentences to help them. You can show one sentence clue at a time. When they have written the word on their whiteboards or have given an answer orally, you can reveal the answers on the next slides. This literacy resource differs from the other 100 sight word resource in that the Lotto game cards only contain Year 1 Common Exception Words whereas the Lotto game cards in the other resource contains 100 sight words. **Now updated with cards that use less colour printer ink. ** You now have a choice of using the original colour coded bingo cards. The original resources remain and I have also inlcuded printer-friendly bingo cards - the background is white and the outlines are in colour. Calendar for back to school you can display in early years/KS1 classrooms. This resource pack contains a blank weather, date and year display poster to be completed each day using the changeable days, date, month, weather card displays. The words in shadow show where the laminated day, date, month and year should go. There is space for the weather conditions on the same blank display. The preview window shows how the display will appear when you complete the blank display poster. You can also change the weather button background if you don’t want plain white - click on, e.g. the ‘hot’ weather button, go to Drawing Tools then Shape Fill to choose your colour. Print off displays onto card paper - enlarge to A3 if wish for a larger display. I printed off onto coloured card paper. My 2-D Shape Mat in colour and b/w. (x2)</strong> 2-D shape mat contains all the shapes the children will be using in their activities. The mat is also needed for the 2-D quiz. There are 8 questions to be answered. <strong>2. Differentiated 2-D Shapes Search and Colour (x5).</strong> Children colour the shapes using the colour key. <strong>3. 2-D Shapes Search + Answer Sheet.</strong> There are five questions on this worksheet. Children refer to the shapes below which shows a variety of 2-D shapes inside two circles. Questions asked, e.g., ‘How many [triangles] do you see? <strong>4. 2-D Shape Pictures (x7).</strong> Seven 2-D shape pictures with colour key to be completed with the correct colours according to the colour key. Fun activities for young students to use puzzles to make CVC words. Aimed at: Early years to start learning and building upon CVC phonic knowledge, KS1 and ESL/EFL students. Opportunity for students to practise initial, medial and final letters in a CVC word. <strong>This product contains:</strong> • CVC Puzzle pieces with and without pictures for workbooks (56 CVC words) • CVC Large Puzzles (Purple) with black and white pictures (57 CVC words) • CVC Large Puzzles (Green) with pictures and extra words (73 CVC words) • Blank Puzzle Sheets Each letter is on a puzzle piece so that the student can form a word. <strong>Suggested Activities</strong> <strong>• CVC Puzzle pieces with and without pictures</strong> Cut/paste: Practical activity for children to cut out and sort the pieces into a CVC word and stick into their workbook or on a sheet of paper. Easier puzzles are with pictures on all the pieces. For more able children: There are puzzles without pictures on the three pieces, but one piece has a picture to complete the puzzle. You can prepare and cut up a select of puzzle pieces for children to sort and stick. <strong>• CVC Large Puzzles (Purple) with black and white pictures</strong> <strong>Independent activity for children to do.</strong> Just leave a selection of puzzle sheets and plain paper on their tables. They cut out the puzzle and put them together to make the CVC word. The picture on the puzzle piece completes the puzzle. <strong>• CVC Large Puzzles (Green) with colour clipart</strong> It is best to print onto card/good quality paper and laminate and then cut out. A total of 73 CVC words which you can print and laminate whenever you need a set of words. Ideal for early finishers and small group work. Children can access these sets of puzzles anytime to practise making CVC words. <strong>Other suggested activity</strong> Once a word is made, children can write on their whiteboards or in their workbooks other CVC words that rhyme with, e.g. ram, yam, ham and jam; pad, sad, mad and had. Each page contains the same shapes but they are different colours. An ideal resource for children to practise colour recognition, 2D shapes and counting. Ideally, each sheet should be laminated and used with a dry-erase pen. Children count the shapes that are the same colour and then write the number in the space provided. Shapes used are: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, diamond/rhombus and pentagon. <strong>Extension opportunity:</strong> Some children can count beyond 10 and even 20 in Reception and Year 1, so once they have written down the number of shapes that are the same colours, they can then add the two numbers together to find the total number of, e.g., squares.
